RYOBI スライド丸のこ Tomioka Tessai (1836–1924), often called “the last literati painter”, was born into a merchant family in Kyoto at the end of the Edo period. He studied a wide range of disciplines—including Shingaku ethics, Confucianism, Yangming philosophy, Japanese classical studies, Shinto, and Buddhism—while also teaching himself various painting styles such as Nanga (Southern School) and Yamato-e. His broad scholarship formed the foundation for his rich and distinctive artistic career.
